Richard Scarry was born June 5, 1919, in Boston, Mass, and died April 30, 1994, in Gstaad, Switzerland. He was a highly successful illustrator and author of children's books. His works have been translated into 28 languages, and have sold over one hundred million copies. His work can be characterized as humerous, full of activity, and adept at combining instruction and entertainment.
